Giant record afoot tonight

Believe it or not, Green Oaks running back Lemarien Parson is almost certainly going to do something no other Giant has done in 37 seasons of football at the MLK-based school: crack the 1,000-yard barrier in a season.

With 955 yards rushing in five games, Parson is poised to break the mark tonight against rival BTW in the Soul Bowl. Then again, nothing is a given against a Demise Loyd-coached defense.

I don't pretend to be some northwest Louisiana football historian, but with all the great athletes that have passed through that school, it seems unbelievable that 2007 would be the year of Green Oaks' first 1,000-yard rusher.

That's gotta be some sort of a record.

Oh wait. It is.
