Still alive

The Southwood Lady Cowboys got a scare tonight - trailing at halftime.

But Southwood did what Southwood does when it comes to girls basketball. They took the lead in the third quarter and pulled away from Mount Carmel in the fourth.

The only surprise here was the Lady Cowboys trailing at halftime.

Now they're just a win away from a 10th state title.

Southwood is to girls basketball what Evangel is to football - a dynasty.

If there is a difference, then it is this - Evangel has been built mostly by its players while Southwood has been built mostly by its coach.

Outside of Alana Beard and Morenike Atunrase, Southwood doesn't have a lot of "name'' players. Evangel has several name players whether it was any of the Bootys, Brock Berlin, Byron Dawson, Jonathan Wade, Chase Pittman and on and on.

Regardless, both are dynasties. And Southwood is only one win away from joining Evangel as double digit state champions.
