Calvary's other football team

Local soccer powerhouses like Captain Shreve, Caddo Magnet, Parkway and Loyola have dominated the sport for years. But the most heartwarming story goes to Calvary.

Amazingly, Calvary has a district championship in its first year of existence and is heading to the Division III playoffs.

David Salter came over to Calvary from Airline and turned a program featuring seventh and eighth graders into an undefeated district champ.

OK, they aren't going to beat the big schools anytime soon, but to do what Salter has done is quite amazing.

Check Thursday's The Times edition for more about Salter's job and the Byrd Lady Jackets rise to the top of their district.
